My interpertation Viva La Vida. What do you think?

You know the song, its been an iTunes commercial. What I think his talk of French Revolution. You know, Louis is the capital of France and is allied with many countries and helped to weaken the British Empire. He now has a better grip on things, like the ocean and other lands. the people crying "Down with the king, long live the king refers to his dethronement and later in the song, "head on a silver platter" is about when he was beheaded. Finally, in the choruses, there are many Christain references. We know at this time, France was a society based heavily Catholic, it would be absurd that the king would listen for Peter as he goes to death. At least that's what I think. What do you think of this?

I think you are absolutely right! Chris Martin gave insight into the inspiration for the song in an interview, saying he was a king who screwed up, realizing that he has not done a great job now that he sees the revolutionaries at his door. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sKpCMjH9jU He also said that the illustrations the album was inspired by this song, which is Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix depicting the French revolutionary war. He also mentions seeing the Play The Scarlet Pimpernel, which takes place after the Revolution. Therefore, the words can easily be fit to come from point of view of King Louis XVI who was overthrown by the revolutionaries. The words are I used to rule the world seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemies eyes Listen as the crowd chanted: "Now the old king is dead long live the king!" One minute I held the key Next the walls were closed on me and I discovered that my castles on pillars of salt, and pillars of sand - which could refer to all power that the King once held and how much he was loved at first, his indecisiveness and conservatism led some elements of people France to eventually hate him as a symbol of the perceived tyranny and he soon saw his reign escape under him, like salt or sand. I mean Jerusalem bells are ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can not explain Once you know that there never was, never an honest word That was when I ruled the world (Ohhh) It was the bad and wild wind blew down the doors to let in Shattered Windows Me and the sound of drums People could not believe what I'd become Revolutionaries Wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Oh who would ever be king? The choir May be referring to ideological differences Louis "with much of Europe, and how he argued that the Legislature has declared war on the Roman Empire. The wind "could refer to a wind of change that swept threw the people and led to the disappearance of King. He was found guilty of treason and was executed by public beheading (head on a silver plate) It could also reflects the revolution against King Charles X that has been accomplished little other than to present a new king to power, Louis-Philippe. The painting "Liberty Leading the People" was purchased by the French government at the time was not posted until the final Revolution (1848) that dethroned King Louis-Philippe and placed the newly elected President, Louis Napoleon to power.
