How to plug in ipod to car stereo? What to buy?

I drive a Lexus RX330 and people tell me to just get an auxilary cable for like 2 bucks off amazon http://www.amazon.com/AUDIO-3-5MM-JACK-AUXILIARY-CABLE/dp/B001T4SNQO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1262489925&sr=8-2

I know I have an auxilary plug but the hole looks so big and fat to me. the cap of it says 12V 120W MAX. will that auxilary plug for 3 bucks up there work? I have no idea help!

Really? What you're looking at is an auxiliary power jack, also known as a cigarette lighter. It's for charging your cell phone or any other small electronic device that can be plugged in.

The auxiliary cable your friends are talking about (what you link to above) is indeed what you need to connect your I-Pod, and is something else entirely. All newer Lexus (you didn't mention how old yours was) will have an audio aux jack (a much, much smaller hole, as you said) somewhere to plug an Ipod directly into your stereo. On my IS250, it's in the center console. Some cars have it directly on the stereo. On my wife's Honda, it's in the glove compartment. Look around. Chances are, it's there somewhere. But what you're looking at isn't it......

If you don't have a jack - another option (albeit not as good) would be an FM transmitter.
