Boat Speakers Pair
JBL sub? really confused ... please help?
Hey guys, I'm looking for a sound system to put in my boat. I try to JBL, JL, Kicker, Clarion. Do not know what to go with yet but I looked at the JBL subwoofer, http://www.jbl.com/EN-US/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?PID=MPS1000, I am confused about this as ... If I buy the sub and a pair of speakers, do I still need an amp? JBL talks about as having a closed system of self, self-powered. Is this a good sub to go with? My boat is 17ft not much space. If I get one in different with an amp they need to get me a way to low to be true? Would it be better to buy in or get a JBL amp with a sub of kicker or JL. As you can I'm very new to audio systems ... Thank you all for help as if I JL speakers do I need an amp the speakers?
The JBL is a powered woofer (250watts RMS) ... then you would not need a separate amp. JL is very good, Kicker is strong, but the sound quality so-so. The JBL is nice because it is all inclusive and marine-ready, but a good set-up JL would be better (more expensive too) and put a kicker in place would be stronger. If you are looking for a nice sound system for you and others on the boat (and it's not a huge boat) I had to go with JBL ... if you are looking to have a boat rocking party or if you got a big boat $, then you'll want something more powerful.
