Fi Amplifier Cars
Subwoofer enclosure help!?
I have a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS and this summer I was planning on putting in a fully loaded Fi BTL 18 with either an AQ2200D or an AQ3500.1D amplifier and my original box design was going to replace the back seats, however, I like being able to carry more passengers. I measured my trunk and I can fit a big enough box in the trunk with one major exception. The box is too big to be built outside of my car and be put in. How does one build a box inside their trunk? Before you give me a sarcastic answer, hear me out. To build a box properly, one must screw the box together with pre-drilled holes and use some sort of filler to fill in the seams on the inside to make it air-tight. How would I secure the box together and ensure it is air-tight if I can't get my drill in the trunk to screw the pieces together and fill in the seams?
I was actually planning on the same type of application myself, and trying to figure out how to pull it off.
So far I was thinking about starting by putting the bottom of the box in the trunk, then possibly using L-shaped metal brackets from Home Depot or Lowe's to actually screw the sides of the box together from the inside. Finally maybe just make sure to use plenty of glue on put on the top, securing were possible and clamping it.
Also, make sure to cut your speaker holes before you attach the baffle, then you can use silicone caulk to seal what you can through the speaker holes.
Overall, the wood glue is what holds the box together, the screws more or less to act as a clamp to get a tight bond between the wood while the glue dries, so another option I was debating was to just use glue and clamps.
Anyways, just my two cents and brainstorming so far, let me know if you can think of any other ways to help pull this off.
