What is the button on a low-pass subwoofer for?

I have a Polk Audio PSW 505 subwoofer.it can drop to about 23 Hz, but it seems to distort at about 30Hz or so.im guess it has to do with the "low-pass button." How do I know where to place it? Wen I calibration on my Denon receiver is the crossover for each speaker to 40 Hz, but I change it to 80hz supposely because it gives better results but then im stuck with u knob.it the low-pass can range from 60 to 120 hz.i do not know where to put the? I have two 12 inch Sony fronts.i ur hear keynote speakers at mix with the sub but do not know wut that means and I just want my subwoofer to sound his answers would best.any help.plz answer!

Hi Rodolfo ........ Which is unfortunate with the receivers late model if you do not have time or know how to manually calibrate a receiver ... then you do not the best use of an amplifier / receiver ... when using the automatic caliber "calibration" selection ... in my opinion, it comes out much more " flat "than do the calibration manually ... is tedious, but the end result is sound that puts a smile on your dial (face )..... .. Now Hz to your Dilema .... every box has its own capacity and limits they are all different in their way (I am a firm believer of that!) ... Judging by what Rodolfo you said I would say around the brand 25 Hz should be sufficient ... but you have to twist around with all audio equipment. With your receiver if you do not tried this ...... try ... is to extract more signal from the receiver to your sub Polk .... So the menu of your receiver into President ....." Setting "and select" small "or" small "for all your speakers, then select" large "or" more "For setting the subwoofer ...... It's a simple suggestion for you to try if you want to have the frequency Hz lower (below ).... See you soon!
