New sony home theater system; only front center speaker working?

I have just purchased a new 5-speaker Sony home theater, and have all the speakers connected. however, sound only comes from the front center speaker and the subwoofer. I ran a test with the supplied cd and all the speakers are working, however when i watch tv sound only comes from the front center. Also, when i change the tv input to the home theater video input, i cannot open the menu to adjust settings. can someone please help?!?!

On a 5.1 system, nearly all the voices will come from the center speaker. To see if the rest are working fine, you need source material that actually uses 5.1. Many action movies do great with 5.1.

One thing you can do is get the HD essentials disk and follow its directions for setting up both sound and video. This is worth doing if you spent any decent amount of money on the TV. http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Video-Essentials-Basics-Blu-ray/dp/B000V6LST0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1264805623&sr=8-1 Mine came with the colored glasses needed for video and a guide for the sound.
