Stereo/Receiver QUESTION please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

I have a sony stereo/receiver. (I still have my steakers/subwoofer) and all the receivers i look at have a Different kind of slot for subwoofer, My subwoofer cord is just wire at the end that you stick into the receiver like the speakers but all these receivers have a diff Port like a Audio in/out you put into a tv?! Is there a piece i can buy that i could connected my subwoofer wire to plug into the back of the Receiver?

It is possible to do this with an adapter from a car audio shop or Radio Shack but...

Is your subwoofer powered (active) or non-powered (passive)? This makes a big difference since most receivers with the RCA output are for powered subwoofers. If your sub is not powered you can still try hooking it up with an adapter but you will most likely get very little sound or, you could hook up an amplifier to power it.

Might be easier to buy a decent used sub if you're trying to save money.
