how do i test electrical continuity of two wall outlets with the power ON?
My job requires i go into many garages and use the electrical outlets. I need to know how to test continuty between two wall outlets quickly, rather than blowing fuses, bothering the customer, removing workboots, trudging through the house to find the electrical panel (IF the customer is even home).
USA There used to be a kit with a small, high frequency generator that you could plug into a receptacle, and a small hand held device to sense, or "pick up" the frequency at another receptacle or breaker. We used to use them to identify live circuits and what they fed.
Go to an electrical supply house - not a home depot or lowe's - or a large electronics dealer, and see what they have.
Otherwise, you are not going to do it energized.
