Salzburg Music
How long does it take to go from Amsterdam to Greece by train, followed by Greece in Salzburg?
My son and I left Amsterdam Aug.8 and must be in Salzburg for a music festival which begins August 15. We want to visit Greece and I would like info. Vacation time and place stay and visit. Youth hostels in Athens, all sounds dirty and dangerous. My son had 15 and 17. Also, when we leave Greece may return north through Italy? Is there ferry crossing from Greece to Southern Italy? Safe? Cost? Thank you, our weak dollar makes our trip very expensive!
1. From Amsterdam to Greece = 36 hours, 13 minutes in Thessaloniki, the first major transit center for trains arriving at Greece from the west. 2. You can. There are ferries Patras, Greece to Bari, Italy (HML, Minoan Lines and Superfast Ferries). Also Venice, Ancona, Brindisi and Corfu, Greece. This might help you resolve all options ferry: http://www.ferries.gr/ Low cost flights, at least in one sense can save you much time and money - given the length of the trip. See http://www.whichbudget.com to find and get prices. Oh! Athens to Salzburg by train = 33h, 46m (fastest connections). Thessaloniki, Salzburg = 28h, 17m (the earliest possible day). http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/englisch/international_guests.shtml
