Bose Freespace

Can you use the Bose with a non-Bose receiver?
I have an Onkyo receiver Ive used several different brands speakers in the past. But I can not get a pair of Bose Freespace to work with her. Bose speakers are only compatible with receivers Bose?
I use the Bose cubes double that came with my Lifestyle system. They are now connected to my Yamaha surround receiver seconds sound / amp and great work. I had to get rid of my Acoustimass module and cut the plugs off the players so they can connect directly my amp. I have a 5.1 configuration and I bought a subwoofer powered Yamaha to replace the Acoustimass subwoofer. It works very well and it was relatively easy to configure. I was not sure if they were 8 ohm speakers - Bose does not document this anywhere where I could find - but it works on my system to 8 or 6 ohms, which are my two choices. I keep it at 8 ohms setting because it is the default. Hope this helps!
