Can you use the satellite speakers as a speakerphone center channel?

Speakers Center Channel not offer any advantage over a standard bookshelf speaker? I want a new center speaker but the center channel speakers are so expensive compared to a speaker shelf.

Actually, yes you can. Top-Center channel speakers are designed to be low profile and have a great listening angle. If you want to use a satellite speakers, you should not turn it on its side (assuming its a standard single woofer-tweeter design) because it causes the nodes along the horizontal fracture stream axis (which axis is more important because generally not everyone sits perfectly in line with the speaker. A speaker shelf placed in its normal upright position generally do not answer the major axis out a speaker center channel would. However, it will more even frequency response with areas less cancellation between multiple woofers. Basically, go ahead and do it, but make sure you leave the right satellite speakers, and try to sit closer in line with the speaker as possible, as this will give you the best sound possible.
